I went into the week with nothing to lose and everything to gain and I’m delighted with that start.

ISM's players made a huge impression on the opening day of the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Open.

The 105-man event is the first European Tour tourmament to be held in Cyprus and ISM's Mitch Waite, playing on an invite, shared the lead at seven under after an impressive opening round.

ISM is promoting the tournament and the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown next week.

Mitch, who is playing his fourth European Tour event, said: "I started quite nicely at the beginning of this year on Challenge Tour and obviously Covid hit and that slowed me down but
I’m just fortunate to be here on an invite.

"I went into the week with nothing to lose and everything to gain and I’m delighted with that start.

“Everyone is having a great time here at Aphrodite Hills. The course and the hotel are amazing and we’ve had a great welcome. All of the players I’ve spoken to feel the same as me."

Sami Valimaki shared third place after an opening round of 65, while David Horsey, Clement Sordet and Will Enefer, also on an invite, were tied for eighth place at five under and Jack Harrison, a third ISM invite, and Ashun Wu were 27th at three under.

Will set the early pace and said: :I've been a pro for a few years now, been quite successful on the EuroPro Tour, bits on Challenge
Tour.

"I played in the Northern Ireland Challenge a few weeks ago, and there were five ISM lads there. Chubby (Chandler) said the best score that week could get a start at the Portugal Masters, so I
made my European Tour debut there.

"It's been a weird year as everyone knows, but it's been quite
successful."
