Robert MacIntyre was the winner of the innovative Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown as ISM's hugely successful two weeks in Cyprus came to an end.

It was the first time in European Tour history that tournaments were held in Cyprus and MacIntyre helped serve up a memorable finish.

Following Callum Shinkwin's success in the Cyprus Open the previous week, the field was cut to 36 and ties with the scores reset in the Showdown, with 16 plus ties battling it out from reset scores on the final day.

Scot MacIntyre's birdie on the last for a seven-under-par round of 64 earned him a first European Tour title.

The format received widespread praise on social media at the end of a fortnight that saw Aphrodite Hills and Cyprus receive hugely positive coverage.

We would like to thank our partners Asprey London, The Landmark Nicosia, Prodea Investments, Ocean Tee, Kind, Macade, Megabet, Oscar Jacobsen, Solgar, CanO Water and Wow Hydrate for their support.

Speaking after Saturday's third round, the players were in praise of the format.

Johannes Veerman said: "This format is great. You can make it to the final day, which is what our goal was, then you have a chance to win. That was the first step, making it to the top 32 – which we did – then the next one was making the top 16 – which we did. Now it’s just a race to the finish, it’s exciting."

Thomas Detry said: "I was just watching the drama at the end of the second round, it’s a really interesting format because usually players will make the cut on the number and then will be ten shots away – you know whoever makes the cut is tied for the lead. Anything can happen. So there was a bit of extra pressure and it was quite entertaining watching some of the players finishing their last few holes."

Steven Brown said: "I think normally on a Saturday you know that even if you have a slowish day, just to keep going because you’ve always got Sunday to make a charge as well. Whereas today it’s very cut-throat, you’re either in or you’re not. There’s nothing in between, you’re either still in it or you’re gone."

Richard Bland said: "It’s great (the format). It is different but it’s great, considering we played a 72-hole tournament last week it’s great for the viewers back home that they are seeing something different.

"The last hole is a great finishing hole, we were watching the board yesterday there were eagles and sevens."
